Poverty, Benevolence, and GROW Groups

By amberbruce

A week ago Sunday, Local Outreach Coordinator Angie Hufford led the optional GROW Group Leader training on the topic of the Benevolence Ministry. She gave a thoughtful treatment of the Christian perspective on poverty and practical strategies for addressing it. If you missed out, don’t worry! You can download the notes from her talk right here: Poverty. Thanks, Angie!

Fitting Benevolence Ministry and GROW Groups Together

By amberbruce

I hope you all enjoyed the video highlighting the Benevolence Ministry on Sunday! I learned a lot about what the Benevolence Ministry is and how it works. Building on that, we would like to help you as a GROW Group Leader learn how the Benevolence Ministry fits with the GROW Groups Ministry.

When someone in your small group needs assistance, what’s the best way to help out? Join Local Outreach Coordinator Angie Hufford as we explore together what resources are available from Bethel and the community and how we can best maximize our efforts to help others.

Come hear “Small Group Leaders: How Do We Help?” on Sunday, March 4th at 11am in the Mountain View Room.

Human Trafficking Awareness Events at Bethel this weekend

By amberbruce

This month is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month and we are blessed to have the opportunity to hear from Don and Bridget Brewster of Agape International Missions this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday.

The first event is Saturday, January 14th at 7:00pm at Bethel Church in the Fellowship Hall. This event is to raise awareness in our community. Invite friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family members to hear the Brewsters share stories of faith and victory over the horror of child sex trafficking. Don and Bridget have been living on the front lines of the battle against Child Sex Trafficking for the last 6 years and have great wisdom and an impactful message to share with us.

The second event is on Sunday, January 15th at 4pm. This is for the men and women of Bethel Church to not only learn more about the problem but learn ways to combat it as a community of believers in the name of Christ. Encourage your GROW Group to attend together!

More information about the Brewsters and Agape International Mission:
Don Brewster has been featured on many of the network broadcasts about sex-trafficking over this last year as director of Agape International Missions in Cambodia.

They partner with International Justice Mission to combat sex trafficking in Cambodia and worldwide. IJM has this to say about ARC (Agape Restoration Center - a safe home where rescued girls can heal):

Kaign Christy of International Justice Mission (the leader in rescuing children from slavery around the world), has given ARC the following endorsement, “ARC opened in Cambodia at a time of critical need for quality, secure shelters for rescued victims of child sexual exploitation. They have filled that need wonderfully. Their shelter and programs are professional, nurturing and effective. The stories of rehabilitation and hope that result from their efforts are profound and moving. It is our privilege to partner with them in this work in Cambodia.”

Optional Leader Training - David Platt video

By amberbruce

GROW Group leaders Allan and Yolanda Tuan hosted the optional Leader Training yesterday. They had recently returned from the Desiring God 2011 National Conference Finish the Mission: For the Joy of All Peoples and shared the video of one of the sessions from that conference: The Glory of God, the Lostness of Man, and the Gospel of Christ by David Platt, author of the book Radical. A discussion on what should be fueling our mission to share the gospel followed the video. It was a great time of reflection and refreshment for some of our leaders. Allan and Yolanda did a great job of reminding us why we lead. You can watch the video below. As you do, think of how the reality of God’s glory, our lostness and the beauty of the gospel motivates us to proclaim Christ.

Check the calendar on the left of this page to hear about our quarterly Leader Trainings.
