What is NExT?

Fill out the Initial Project Application top
The next opportunity to submit an Initial Project Application will be in January 2012. Filling out the Initial Project application is the first step in getting your project approved and funded. Once you complete the form, you will receive email confirmation that we have received your application. The Evaluation Committee will be reviewing all applications submitted in early October.

What is NExT? top
NExT is a Bethel-wide campaign designed to establish a culture of Christ-centered leadership development and transfer from generation to generation through strategic use of God’s provision. Typically when the word “campaign” is used in the context of church, we immediately think about raising funds to accomplish a specific purpose. NExT is unique; we are seeking to join the Lord in His global purposes by predominantly utilizing funds He has already provided to Bethel. To accommodate project selection a screening criteria and process has been outlined by Bethel’s Elder Board.

The Process top
The process for receiving approval and any requested funding for a NExT project is really quite simple. First, an Initial Project Application form is completed and submitted to the NExT Evaluation Committee. This summary provides a general overview of the proposed project which includes the purpose, team leadership, and other information.

If the Evaluation Committee approves the Initial Project Application, then the prospective project leader is directed to the NExT Final Project Application form. The final application will then be submitted to the NExT Evaluation Committee and the Elder Board.

Please note that this process is designed to be done online only. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, please contact Bethel Church at 628-0150 to make alternative arrangements.

NExT Project Criteria top
All Projects must meet the following criteria that are integral to the NExT campaign:

  • New Leaders (N)
  1. A significant fraction of the core launch team must be under 40 years of age.
  2. The roles and responsibilities established for these individuals must engage them in meaningful leadership roles, not token positions.
  3. A significant fraction of the overall team should be stretched in terms of deeper Bethel involvement and/or personal capability.
  • Extended Influence (Ex)
  1. Results in direct Kingdom promotion. Projects will be holistic in nature but must focus on man’s deepest need—his spiritual condition.
  2. Mobilizes a broad spectrum of Bethel membership. Gets new participants active and directly involved in ministry (as opposed to a purely financial involvement).
  3. Includes at least one new element, (i.e. targets a new demographic, reaches out to a new community…).
  • Transformation (T)
  1. Promotes spiritual discipleship.
  2. Must be observable and measurable.
  3. Must be sustainable and reproducible, not a one-time event.
  4. Must be a focused initiative that targets a longer-term goal for making disciples.

These criteria can best be shown by the diagram below:

If the proposed project does not meet all the criteria above, the project will not be approved. However, if the general direction of the proposed project has promise, a coach may be assigned for further evaluation.

Frequently Asked Questions top

•How much funding has been allocated to NExT in the 2012 budget? ($600,000)

•Are projects limited to those requiring less than $600,000? (No, projects of all sizes, large or small, can be submitted. If required, additional funds can be raised through Day of Giving events or targeted campaigns.)

•Who can submit a ministry idea for NExT? (Any member of Bethel Church)

•When is the first opportunity to submit a ministry idea? (Submittals are accepted twice each year; the first opportunity is September 2011 followed by January 2012)

•Who do you submit your ideas to? (An evaluation committee that includes: 2 staff member, 3 elder representatives and 4 members of Bethel. They will evaluate at each proposal based on established criteria. Projects will be considered that meet the three criteria of N-New Leaders, Ex-Extending Influence and T-Transformation)Must the project meet all three criteria (N-new leaders, Ex-extended influence, and T-transformation) to be considered? (Yes, the evaluation committee will be available to help with the process and details will be outlined in the application document)

•I’m over 40, does that mean I have no role to play in NExT? )No, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In addition to direct involvement, you play a pivotal role as a seasoned mentee to the next generation of leaders. NExT can’t happen without broad generational involvement)

•What if my small group wants to do a project? (This is the perfect setting for a NExT project to initiate. In the upcoming months work together to develop your ideas into a proposal, involve the younger generation, and submit your idea in August)

•Is NExT a program, a campaign, a philosophy, or something else? (NExT is a Bethel wide campaign designed to promote and establish a culture of leadership transfer)

•Is NExT just about finding new leadership for Bethel? (No, while that is certainly a large part of our desired outcome, NExT is broader than that. Our prayer is that the Lord will raise up leaders that will take roles in Christ-centered ministries throughout the Tri-cities region and beyond)
