Review: Fireproof Your Marriage

Posted by Bethel Web | Print This Post Print This Post

What is it?
FIREPROOF Your Marriage is a biblically based marriage study based on the movie and formatted to be used in a small group setting. Each week starts with a short DVD clip from the movie FIREPROOF. The clip is designed to launch the topic of discussion for the week in the small group. The easy format leads participants through a section for small group discussion as well as a section for weekly application.

Topics include:

  • He Said / She Said - appreciating differences between men and women
  • He First Loved Us - God’s love for you and how it enables you to love others
  • Love for a Lifetime - marriage as a lifelong commitment
  • Breaking Free - freeing yourself from temptations that can destroy a marriage
  • Forgiveness - offering and receiving forgiveness
  • A Better Way of Loving - unconditional love

Who is this material for?
Participants will be issued a challenge to be the one in their relationship to “love first” and “love better.” If the homework application is used seriously, the material is designed to promote growth and healing in troubled marriages and strengthen comfortable ones. In particular, couples in the 20 to 40-year-old range will strongly relate to the media movie format of the DVD. It is current and thought provoking.

What’s the time commitment?
FIREPROOF Your Marriage is a six week study. There is weekly homework, but it is not time consuming. Husbands and wives spend time on their own with two to three questions focused on their gender (approx. 30 minutes) and then come together to discuss their answers, read a few scriptures and pray (another 30– 45 minutes).

Positive Feedback:

This study is strongly biblically based and the material will strongly challenge spouses to start with themselves to promote love and change in their relationships. It deals with some strong issues that are at the core of many troubled marriages. The couple’s weekly applications promote respect and integrate a couples devotion.

Are there any challenges about this material?
In order for the material to have its intended results, it is vital that each couple complete the weekly application homework. Homework should be made mandatory for both the sake of the couple and the whole group. Couples will get the most out of this material if they have previously seen the FIREPROOF movie in whole. The group may choose to watch it together before they begin the study.

What’s the cost?
The Small Group DVD (of clips) can be checked out from Greg and Jill Cullen. Leaders can purchase a Leaders Kit on cbd.com for about $23 (includes DVD clips, 1 leaders guide and 1 participant guide). Each participant will need to purchase a Participant Guide for about $8.
